Interview with Lew Dickey

Oddly enough I agree with most everything he says. I think he hits the nail on the head for the most part except for one thing, he never expresses how he expects to bring about increased monetization in the industry. How can you expect your competitor to raise his rates, when you can't figure out how to raise your own? In other words, how do you convince a wary, potential client that a spot load your station will result in anything more than "enhanced market equity" for him? It seems as though he's attempting to use an Internet forum to conspire with other operators to set prices, rather than find a way to convince buyers that radio delivers the most bang for the advertising buck.

Radio needs to get bodies in the door, and provide potential clients with verifiable results, or we're pissing in the wind. Especially in times like these in which "market equity" means doodly squat for the average business person.

He's a smart man but I don't buy in to most of his bullshit. That company, along with Citadel and CC, has helped ruin an industry. It's never going to come all the way back.

He sounds as if he thinks radio's only problems are recession-related. Those who know anything realize the downfall started well before the economy started going in the toilet.

Lastly, I will never believe that he or any of his spoiled siblings give one rats ass about their employees. There are lots of instances to validate my case, most of which were reported on this website.

I wish the following question was posed to Lew Dickey..... "How can you justify taking very large bonuses - and bonuses for your brother while laying off Hundreds of very talented hard working people ? How have you sacrificed during the recession. ?

The 5 day furlough he spoke about was hard for some financially - most kept their mouth shut to protect a job they need.

Radio Content he spoke about - In reality it sucks. Very little local or involved or caring. Radio's only hope is for consolidated groups to go belly up and have to sell stations at realistic prices to real broadcasters.

Just allowing Jan Jeffries to continue to destroy stations with his lame programming is reason enough to believe the Dickeys dont have a clue.

In less than ten mins I could give them the best idea to dominate the Mobile Ala. market which is Jan Jeffries home town as it is mine, but they wouldnt listen. They would rather continue to let Jeffries make the dumbest radio mistakes to ever grace the Mobile airwaves continue. Format after format after format... Star...Hot...country.....nevermind....

Sad really...
